The Medical Transportation Association of New Jersey (originally named the New Jersey Association of Invalid Carriers Inc.) began in August 1976 when six providers from around the State joined to work on the many problems they were facing with Medicaid, Medicare and other reimbursement agents. One thing these industry leaders realized was without a common voice, they would not be heard. They understood that it was only through unity that they could take an industry that was in its infancy stage and improve medical transportation reimbursement.
In the beginning the organization dealt exclusively with issues surrounding reimbursement and the rules for the Medicaid & Medicare programs. Later, as the industry began to mature, the Association also began to address both operational and reimbursement issues for all levels of medical transportation. The name of the Association was changed to the Medical Transportation Association of New Jersey in 1985 to fit the industry it had evolved into representing.
Over the years, the leadership of the MTANJ has brought unique strengths to the Association helping it grow in influence and attend to the needs of members. The MTANJ has been involved in advocacy since its inception and had significant success in obtaining better reimbursement, more realistic regulations, and providing timely education for New Jersey providers.
The MTANJ continues to advocate for and inform its members concerning issues that affect the industry. However, it is through the insight, ideas, wants and needs of the membership that the MTANJ looks to the future.
With its history as the foundation, the MTANJ has embarked on a revitalization process that will result in an association with expanded benefits designed by and for members.
